Bailey’s last course at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee was allowed her to flex her graphic design muscles for small advertising assignments. The course consisted of an overview of design and type principles to create visually impactful social media graphics, billboards, and more.
Assignment: “Storytelling”
The object of this assignment was to write a story about a significant life moment, select a media channel to tell it, and create an advertisement around it. Bailey wrote about a woman running late for a date with her boyfriend, grabbing her boots on her way out the door, and receiving a marriage proposal upon arrival. Professor Malcom Woods said of Bailey’s submission: “Love the approach and the unconventional brand choice. It’s what lifts this out of the cliche, right? Honestly, I love everything you’ve done here. Great job.”
The final grade on this assignment was 10 out of 10 points.

Assignment: “Comparing Brand Attributes”
*This was a group assignment completed with Catherine James, Luis Portillo, and Marla Smith.
The object of this assignment was to analyze two brands that offer similar products, compare the benefits of each, list attributes, and develop an advertising idea for one of the brands. The group chose Ben & Jerry’s and Halo Top ice cream brands. Professor Malcom Woods said of the assignment: “Great job – the two brands occupy shelf space in most grocer’s freezers but do embody very different brand strategies. I’m curious about the claim that the market for calorie-deficit foods is decreasing, particularly with the recent boom in keto diets and foods. That said, your suggested new directions seem reasonable. I also had to look up Doggie Desserts. I had no idea. My dog has been missing out!”
The final grade on this assignment was 5 out of 5 points.
Assignment: “Art and Copy“
The object of this assignment was to create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) with 10 x 5 dimensions and no more than six words in the copy. This print advertisement was intended to highlight the importance of taking personal measures to protect senior citizens from COVID-19, as they were by far the most impacted group throughout the pandemic.
The final grade on this assignment was 5 out of 5 points.
